Why Was Kandy Cantaloupe Recalled?

Following routine testing, Kandy Cantaloupe - a Washington state company - has issued a voluntary recall of whole, cubed, and sliced cantaloupe products after samples tested positive for Salmonella.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has advised consumers not to eat, serve, or sell any recalled Kandy Cantaloupe products, regardless of the package size or use-by date.

The recall includes all Kandy Cantaloupe products with a product code beginning with "C" and a use-by date through April 14, 2023.

What is Salmonella?

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause food poisoning. Symptoms of Salmonella infection can include diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and abdominal cramps.

In some cases, Salmonella infection can be more serious and lead to hospitalization or even death.

Individuals who have consumed recalled Kandy Cantaloupe products and are experiencing symptoms of Salmonella infection should contact their healthcare provider.

  • Do not eat raw or undercooked meat, poultry, or eggs.
  • Avoid contact with animals that may carry Salmonella, such as reptiles and birds.

If you have consumed recalled Kandy Cantaloupe products, you should monitor yourself for symptoms of Salmonella infection.
